2019 Palmento Costanzo 'Bianco di Sei'

Mimmo Costanzo and his wife Valeria came to Etna in 2011, part of the wave of vintners flocking to the north side of the towering Sicilian volcano over the first couple decades of this century. Unlike the others, the Costanzos are actually Sicilian, owners of a major construction company in Catania.

A "palmento" is an old traditional winemaking structure in Etna, and there happened to be an extant one on the property that the Costanzo's bought and restored. The "di sei", or "of six", in the name supposedly refers to the numbering system for volcanic activity in Italy, six being the most active, which, if you've been paying any attention to Mt Etna over the last few years, will not at all be a surprise.

This 2019 has high-citrus, lemon flower, unripe peach/nectarine, green fruit, and a bit of savory sesame and sage as it opens up, with a super mineral rocky finish with lots of acid. Pair with juicy roast chicken, steamed clams, mussels and fries, or sautéed summer squash.
