2019 Domaine Lupin Frangy Roussette de Savoie
Bruno Lupin's vineyards lie in the Les Usses River valley, at around 1500 feet elevation, in the town of Frangy (only about 30km southwest of Geneva). Frangy is one of only four townships that can be labeled as cru Roussette de Savoie, an AOC appellation exclusively for the altesse grape varietal.
Lupin's vines in Frangy are all on the terraced Les Aricoques hill that rises directly behind the winery, just up from the northern bank of the river as it runs through the town. Fully south facing, the hillside gathers plenty of heat in the summer to ripen the grapes, while cool nights help retain bright acidity. Even within the cru Roussette, Frangy is an outlier. The other three villages are about an hour to the south, around the Lac de Bourget. "Roussette" is so-called after the reddish tinge the berries develop upon reaching full ripeness.

This 2019 has citrus and leafy aromatics, green mountain herbs like thyme and sage, tart apple and pear, and a nice minerality. Please drink this wine with cheese, the more melted the better (Bruno's sister runs an inn and cafe next door to the winery that specializes in fondue), raclette, or also with escargot in garlic and oil.
