NV Poggio Anima Il Mostro 'Longana'

Poggio Anima is the collaboration between Tuscan winemaker Ricardo Campinoti, winemaker and owner of Le Ragnaie in Montalcino, and his American importer Ronnie Sanders, who runs Vine Street Imports in New York. The focus is on unadulterated wines in classic terroirs from  all around Italy.

This single-vineyard sparkling rosé hails from Abruzzo, the Terre di Chieti IGT, which is a general appellation around the city of Chieti in central Abruzzo. The varietal is 100% montepulciano, the main native red varietal of Abruzzo, and the grapes for this wine come from the Monteodorisio vineyard of Nicola Jasci, an organic farmer in the Terre di Chieti, who also makes this wine under the consultation of Campinoti.

This wine is like the definition of poolside, on the porch, on the beach, A1 grade crushable juice. Fairly perfume-y aromatics for a sparkler (it's made with partial whole-cluster maceration), it shows unripe cherry and strawberry candy, watermelon rind, and a touch of bitterness with a clean finish. Unfermented juice is used to top off bottles before crown capping, which brings an additional bright juiciness to the wine (especially to the finish). Drink it alone or with salty snacks of literally any kind, or charcuterie if you need to be fancy.
